UV-Technology

Sun as example

Today after many years of research, it has been discovered that the most effective alternative process available to us in the disinfection of water is by using ultraviolet light (UV). This method, which has been most thoroughly researched, is based on the sun's natural behaviour: ultraviolet rays destroy pathogenic micro-organisms in a matter of seconds and  prevent them from multiplying further.

Effective disinfection using ultraviolet

The best effect can be achieved by using UV-light with a wavelength of 254 nanometer (nm). WEDECO has systematically researched a process that makes it possible to destroy more than 99.99% of all pathogens in water - by contiually monitoring success rates. Even higher rates of disinfection can be achieved when required for specific applicatons such as the pharmaceutical industry.

Reliable disinfection with UV

Bacteria, viruses, oocysts and other pathogens can cause water-borne diseases. In order to avoid the risk of infection, UV is a reliable physical disinfectant agent. The radiation of water with UV light represents the oldest and most natural method of disinfection. Within seconds, UV light inactivates pathogenic micro-organisms by physically disrupting their DNA. In contrast to disinfection to chemicals, for example chlorine, UV light harms neither environment nor health as it does not produce residuals or hazardous by-products.

Advantages for UV disinfection

  • Inactivation of micro-organisms including bacteria, viruses and oocysts
  • No production of residuals or hazardous by-products
  • No effect on water taste, odour or colour
  • Replacement of hazardous disinfectant chemicals
